Shake off that winter chill and start daydreaming about a tropical vacation. The Geo Quiz is taking us to a Caribbean island. It’s the smaller of two main islands that make up a nation. You’ll find it way south in the Caribbean Sea, near the Atlantic Ocean.
You could get there quickly from the Northeastern Coast of Venezuela. Christopher Columbus passed by. The country gained independence in 1962 and thanks to its large reserves of oil and natural gas, this country has one of the wealthiest economies in the Caribbean.
The island also attracts visitors with warm beaches, plenty of beautiful wildlife under the sea, and festive Calypso music. So, where are we?
Geo Answer:
Tobago, one of the two main islands that make up the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is the answer. It’s also the site of the BBC’s Caribbean Service, which is making its final broadcast today. The World’s Adeline Sire speaks with the BBC’s Debbie Ransome there about signing off for the last time.
