For the Geo Quiz, we’re looking for an island off the coast of East Africa. 50 years ago, it joined up with the former African colony named Tanganyika. Together they became the United Republic of Tanzania.

But the island’s name has always conjured up an exotic faraway place and it shows up in an old Hollywood film starring crooners Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. The adventure film was called : The Road to ?� this is where you come in: The road to where? Hopefully the name of the island is on the tip of your tongue.

The answer is Zanzibar, part of the the East African nation of Tanzania. The island’s exotic spices � including clove, cinnamon, and ginger � have for centuries attracted spice merchants. Nowadays, they attract international tourists. Reporter Matthew Brunwasser explains.
