A Meeting With Royalty

For the Geo Quiz, we are looking for a small city on the South Saskatchewan river in Alberta, Canada. It’s sometimes called “the Gas City” because of the large natural gas resources there but the city gets its name from an ancient American Indian legend. The story goes that a Blackfoot hunter gained special powers when he donned a medicine man’s hat.

And there you go, the answer is the Canadian city of Medicine Hat.

A resident of Medicine Hat is about to live out a dream deferred. Frances Miller will soon meet British royalty, a chance she missed as a young girl in 1939. Anchor Lisa Mullins talks with her.
