New Zealanders have been marking a somber occasion.

One year ago, today, the island nation was rocked by a powerful earthquake.

It sent buildings crashing down onto lunchtime crowds and caused billions of dollars worth of damage in the city of Christchurch.

About 185 people died in the earthquake.

This week a ceremony was held to mark the opening of an interment site for the victims.

Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with The Right Reverent Victoria Matthews who is the Anglican Bishop of Christchurch.
