‘Opika Pende’ — Weaving the 78-RPM Magic Again

The Dust-to-Digital label is at the forefront of a new school of record labels that scours the world’s music bins to discover, polish and bring to light forgotten music.

They have done it on compilations like “Goodbye Babylon” and “Black Mirror”. The label’s latest offering is a four CD collection of African music from 78-rpm records, spanning the continent and most of the 20th century. It is called “Opika Pende”. Bruce Wallace has the story.
