China’s media has had plenty of coverage of the earthquake. This Chinese media analyst says what’s unusual is the speed of the reporting: the media is more on the ball, breaking news coverage, and press coverage. It’s only been a year since the government has allowed such media coverage. There was a shift in policy towards media when the Chinese government tried to cover up the SARS epidemic in the spring of 2003.
