The Titanic Was Built Here

The World

We step back 100 years for the Geo Quiz. A luxury liner launched from our mystery city on May 31, 1911. You may have heard of the ship. It was called the Titanic. 15,000 workers at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in this city in Northern Ireland built what was then the largest passenger steamship ever. It began its fateful journey 100 years ago on Tuesday.

Tragedy struck a year later. The Titanic hit an iceberg and sank and more than 1,500 people died. The city it took off from has not always wanted to be associated with the Titanic but that’s changed over the years. Today, tourism officials count on worldwide interest in the Titanic to bring in visitors and cash.

The city we’re looking for is Belfast, Northern Ireland. That’s where you can find Colin Cobb, the owner and operator of Titanic Walking Tours.
