The rising price of onions

The World

India is likely to face a serve shortage of onions in the coming months, which had led to higher prices. The impact has already been felt at average markets like this one in New Delhi where the price of onions is 25 cents a pound. That’s three times more expensive than normal. Onion prices have always been a sensitive issue in India, often with a political impact. That’s because for every Indian, the humble onion is a basic good in everyday cuisine. For millions of Indians who live on less than $2 dollars a day, salt, onion and a piece of bread counts as a major meal.
