This Thursday is Tax Day in America, the last day to either file your annual income taxes or file for an extension. But in this political climate we’re asking, who pays more when it comes time to ask for tax money, you or your politicians?

Charlie Pierce is a staff writer for The Boston Globe and a contributing writer to Esquire. Ajay Mehrotra is a professor of history and law at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. According to Prof. Mehrotra, our national aversion to paying our taxes isn’t as traditional as some might think.
