It’s hard to compete globally when everyone else’s corporate tax rate is lower.

With another debate on tap, Tuesday night in New Hampshire, Republicans and Democrats are lining up to unveil their plans for reforming the tax code. That reform is needed, they all agree. But each has their own prescription for change.

No one likes paying their taxes, but would that change if you got some say over where they went? A group of researchers recently conducted experiments that say yes.

Drivers are happy about the collapse in oil prices, but with federal highway funds also tanking, even Republicans are considering raising the gas tax to make sure road construction can continue. But calling the gas tax a “user fee” may not help push changes past conservatives in Congress.

If Mexican legislators get their way, it will soon cost a bit more to purchase junk food and soda. Several proposals to raise taxes on junk food and sugary drinks are moving forward as part of a bigger tax reform bill. The new taxes are seen as a way to address soaring obesity rates in Mexico and to raise much needed tax revenues.
