Since the attacks of September 11th, Democrats have struggled to carve out a foreign policy perspective distinct from the Bush Administration’s. In short, they didn’t want to look like wimps, and so many went along with Bush’s plan to remake the Middle East via pre-emptive war. Atlantic Monthly blogger Matthew Yglesias is calling on Democrats to make their own foreign policy. His new book is called Heads in the Sand: How the Republicans Screw Up Foreign Policy and Foreign Policy Screws Up the Democrats, and he speaks with Faith Salie on Fair Game.
