In December 2013, teacher and sound designerGabriel Walkerresolved to get back into music, with the goal of forming a band and performing a six-song set by the end of 2014.
November Update:
Jenrose and I have written all original material for the December 20 showcase. We write well together. The songs are good and I hope we can continue writing well into the future. Check out the rough demo of “Paris” above. I wrote the music and Jenrose wrote the lyrics and melody line. The demo was just to give the band the initial idea of the song and they really brought it to life.
I am very fortunate to be working with experienced, professional musicians. The band consists of David Jolley on drums, Ben Short on bass, Gregg Moyer on percussion, Jenrose Fitzgerald on vocals, and me on guitar. I’m grateful to them for bringing our songs to life and for helping me transition back into music. We still have not found a name for the band.
I’ve done no singing at all. With Jenrose singing, I’ve been free to focus on playing and writing. It’s been surprising to discover that singing doesn’t appeal to me as once it did. Playing guitar and writing songs has my undivided attention and I’m good with that (and surprised).
From Denver to Maysville to Louisville, it’s been quite a journey so far. It’s the home stretch. Here’s hoping.
