Prosecutor in New Orleans arrested after joint falls from his pocket in court
New Orleans prosecutor, Jason Cantrell, dropped a joint out of his pocket while talking with police officers in court. He was fined and resigned from his post soon after.
A New Orleans prosecutor was arrested after a joint fell from his pocket in front of police officers in court.
Jason Cantrell, 43, was waiting for defendants to enter the room and for court to begin when he assumedly leaned over or took something from his pocket while speaking with a police officer and a joint fell to the floor.
According to the Times-Picayune, police officers spotted the joint and cuffed Cantrell.
He was given a summons and let go as a first-time offender, said the Daily Mail.
However, he was suspended without pay and quickly resigned his post with the city.

His wife, LaToya Cantrell, is a candidate in the upcoming election for the New Orleans City Council.
She quickly released a statement:
“I love my husband unconditionally and am very concerned for his health and well-being, and for that of our family," Cantrell said, reported the Daily News.
"I hope that this incident will encourage Jason to seek the professional help."
