For today’s Geo Quiz — we’re looking for a place hidden in ice and snow. It may be hidden under snow, but it’s on the map.

�It is on the coast of the Weddell Sea it is at 70 degrees south 8 degrees west…so it’s easy to look up in Google.�

This German Antarctic research base sits atop 600 foot thick ice at the edge of Atka Bay in the Weddell Sea.

It’s located in an icy region known as Queen Maud Land — so named after a former Queen of Norway. That’s courtesy of Roald Amundsen, the Norwegian polar explorer. The summer season is fading away in Antarctica, the long polar night is moving in.

The temperature outside the German research station today is a frigid 1 degree….colder still with wind chill. Aside from the sound of wind, it’s pretty quiet here. But not below the ice. We’ll tell you about the sound of the ocean down there.
