The World

A doctor in the Congo performs an amputation with the help of a text message. Dr. David Nott is a volunteer for Medecins Sans Frontieres in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He encountered a patient who was in desperate need of a rare forequarter amputation, requiring removal of the collar bone and shoulder blade. Dr. Nott had never performed the surgery before. So he texted his colleague in London, who coached him step by step through the complicated procedure and saved a boy’s life. Dr. Nott joins John and Adaora.
