Russia signs a new nuclear deal with India

Russia agrees to build four nuclear power plants in India.
Not long after India’s agreement with the United States allowing the country to access civilian nuclear technology and fuel, Russia will now build four nuclear energy reactors in southern India. This sets off an international race for lucrative Indian contracts — both the United States and France have already signed cooperation pacts with Delhi. Both sides also signed a deal under which Russia will assist India in its space program, including sending Indian astronauts to space. And India will buy eighty military helicopters from Russia cementing a relationship that dates back to the Cold War. Russian President, Dimitry Medvedev, also pledged to support India’s fight against terrorism, following last week’s Mumbai attacks.
