The Mysterious Pangolin

The World

For our Geo Quiz, think of a pangolin. It’s not easy to do if you don’t know what a pangolin is.

Pangolins are nocturnal mammals, and they resemble armadillos. They mostly like to eat ants.

Unfortunately, pangolins are also an endangered species. In some parts of the world, they’re hunted for use in traditional remedies or sex potions.

Authorities in Thailand say they just rescued a whole truckload of pangolins that were being smuggled out of the country. The question is, where did the bust take place?

It was in a province of Thailand that borders Myanmar, or Burma. This province is also the narrowest part of Thailand.

So what’s the name of that province?

The answer is the Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Khan Anchor Marco Werman gets more on pangolins from researcher Dan Challender at the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology based at the University of Kent, England.
