India and U.S. sign nuke deal

The World

India needs power and that’s what the Indian government says the civilian nuclear agreement with the U.S. will provide. But this veteran journalist is not so convinced. But the mainstream view in India has been almost overwhelmingly positive. This MP even went to the extent of expressing his full scale support for the deal as an Indian and not as a politician. Never before in India has a foreign policy issue generated so much controversy, among politicians and ordinary people. The MP believes nuclear energy is the only way India can continue to grow at the rate it has. Even though India is not a signatory of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, this analyst says India has always backed nuclear disarmament.
