With few exceptions, rap music has often been the domain of men. The music is macho.

Some even say anti-woman. Now imagine, hip-hop in West Africa where the position of women in society is often weaker than the west.

We’ll here’s an example that will probably contradict what’s in your imagination. That’s female rapper from Ivory Coast named PrissK.

She’s one of seven female rap artists at the 8th Waga Hip Hop.

Waga refers to Ouagadougou, the capital of the West African landlocked nation of Burkina Faso.

Ouagadougou is where the festival is being held. Reporter Sasha Gankin is in Ouagadougou.
