Cheese from Southern Italy

The World

The Geo Quiz takes us to southern Italy this time: we’re searching for a region where burrata cheese comes from. Small balls of mozzarella, actually, filled with heavy cream. The region we’re looking for is the heel of the Italian boot.

One of the main cities there is Bari but there’s a lot more to the region, according to Domenico Marchitelli.

“There are so many things to eat, to visit, there are monuments, and the sea, it’s beautiful.”

He should know. He’s from this region of southern Italy, and he makes burrata.

And the answer is Puglia. Cheese maker Domenico Marchitelli hails from Puglia, but these days he makes burrata at Maplebrook Farms in Vermont.
