Burma aid report

The World

Burma’s military government has said it will accept international aid but aid workers inside Burma are being subject to travel and visa restrictions and that’s fueling doubts about how much access the regime will give to aid workers and the logistics of reaching remote areas. Anecdotal reports of the damage paint a bleak picture. This woman says all the trees around her house were blown away. Many others lost everything. This aid worker says reaching people over the next 10 days is most critical but it’s not clear whether things can move that quickly. This Refugees International worker says he has his doubts about the ability of aid agencies to work effectively and independently. The French Foreign Ministry announced today it would lower the amount of pledged aid money in response to a lack of confidence of how the money would be used by Burma.
