BOSTON — Like all great dramas, an investigation of complex and murky supply chains across Asia offers no clear rights or wrongs. Yes, some high-tech workers are treated unfairly. And yes, most companies are trying to do something about the problem.

Moreover, almost nobody would buy a $1,000 iPhone or other mobile device, so big brands have an incentive to drive manufacturing costs lower. Suppliers have an incentive to make that possible. And the workers themselves have an incentive to, well, work.

So what do you think of these complicated issues?

Editor’s note: On Thursday Nov. 19, GlobalPost’s Passport section will host a conference call with co-author Jonathan Adams to discuss the Silicon Sweatshops series. Normally these calls are only open to Passport members, but this call will be open to the first 100 people to email passport@globalpost.com. It will occur at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time.
