Kathy Bates, Oscar winner, tweets that she had double mastectomy

Kathy Bates underwent a double mastectomy, she tweeted Wednesday, adding that she was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago.

The Oscar winner tweeted:

In a separate post, she said she didn't miss her breasts as much as she missed "Harry's Law," the NBC law drama she stars in that was canceled in May, the Associated Press reported.

Bates, 64, told People magazine that she would not need to undergo radiation or chemotherapy, and:

"My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time. I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."

Bates won a Best Actress Oscar in 1991 for her role in "Misery," and has been nominated for two Emmys, for "Harry's Law" and "Two and a Half Men."

She received two further Oscar nominations after "Misery" — for "Primary Colors" in 1999 and "About Schmidt" in 2003.

Bates' diagnosis came nine years after she revealed she suffered from ovarian cancer, Reuters reported.

She told People that her family called her "Kat" because she always landed on her feet, "and thankfully this is no exception."
