Race and elections

Issues of race are at the forefront in the U.S. presidential campaign. "The World’s" Jeb Sharp examines the role of race in the political discourse of other countries.

Dr. Clarence Lusane, professor of International Relations at American University in Washington, says increasingly, discussions about the role of race in elections is happening internationally, in Western Europe in particular — the UK, France and the Netherlands — because the populations of people of color in those countries are becomming more politically active.

He says there’s another variable at work as well: the internationalization of political consulting.
