Guan Tianlang: China’s Golf Phenom to Tee it Up at the Masters

Ninety-four of the world’s best professional golfers will tee it up Thursday for the first round of the Masters golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.

All eyes are on Tiger Woods as he seeks to regain his form and win his first major tournament in five years.

But spare a moment to consider 14-year-old Guan Tianlang. The Chinese amateur golfing phenom will make history Thursday, becoming the youngest player ever to compete at the Masters.

To put it in perspective, Guan wasn’t even born when Tiger Woods won his first Masters tournament back in 1997.

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, who is pursuing his first Green Jacket, said of Guan’s appearance at the Masters: “I just hope he enjoys it this week, because that’s what its all about.” McIlroy is only 23-years-old.
