Amundsen’s North Pole Ship ‘Maud’ to Return Home

We are tracking a ship called the “Maud” for the Geo Quiz.

Maud is a famous three masted ship named after Norway’s Queen Maud.

Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen sailed the ship during his expeditions to reach the North Pole.

The historic ship was abandoned then sank at its moorings back in 1930 and there it sits, submerged in the chilly waters of Cambridge Bay in northern Canada.

Now, after a long legal battle, a Canadian court has cleared the way for Maud to return to Norway where she was built.

And our question is exactly that. Where in Norway was the Maud built?

It is a village on the outskirts of Oslo and has a great view of the Oslofjord.
