Western Envoys Attend Wake Of Syrian Activist

The World

Unlike Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi, Syria’s Bashar al-Assad is still in power. The protests against his regime continue, though, and so does the brutal repression. This week, the US Ambassador in Damascus attended the wake of one protester whose death has sparked outrage.

Ghiyath Matar was a 24-year-old activist who was detained by the Syrian authorities last week. His body – bearing signs of torture – was returned to his family over the weekend. Anchor Lisa Mullins talks with Liz Sly who reported on Matar’s death for the Washington Post.
