For today’s Geo Quiz — we’re venturing onto hallowed ground.
We’re after the name of some famous World War I battlefields. They’re located in the historic region of Flanders nestled among Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers died there during the grueling battles of WWI. Today there are military cemeteries, cornfields, and fields of wild poppies scattered throughout these battlefields. The red poppies appear in a famous poem about this place, a place where: ” the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row”. Legend has it the poem was inspired by seeing blood red poppies blooming in the same fields where so many soldiers died.
What’s the setting for this famous World War One poem ?
