Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor

Twelve years ago, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor suffered a debilitating stroke that wiped out the functions controlled by the left side of her brain – little things like walking, talking, reading, writing, remembering. But she’s a neuro-anatomist, so for her, it was an amazing research opportunity. Now, even though it took her 8 years to recover, Dr. Taylor says the stroke is one of the best things that ever happened to her. After recently appearing at the Technology, Entertainment and Design Conference in Monterey California, Dr. Taylor’s experience went viral. Videos of her conference speech are appearing everywhere on the world wide web – maybe it was the human brain she brought on stage as a prop, or maybe it was her amazing story. Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor speaks with Faith Salie on Fair Game.

Do you support journalism that strengthens our democracy?

At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.

Every day, our nonprofit newsroom seeks to inform and empower listeners and hold the powerful accountable. Neither would be possible without the support of listeners like you. If you believe in our work, will you give today? We need your help now more than ever! Every gift will be matched 2:1, so your impact will go even further.
