As many as 72 people have fallen ill and 16 have died, after eating cantaloupes that were contaminated with listeria, a dangerous bacteria. The contaminated fruit was traced back to Jensen Farms in Colorado, which ships to 25 states. This makes the outbreak the country’s deadliest of food related illness in more than a decade, according to public health officials. Dr. Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, is a food safety expert.
