Al Jazeera on Reporting the American Muslim Radicalization Hearings

The Takeaway

On Thursday, the House Committee on Homeland Security, chaired by Republican Congressman Peter King, is scheduled to hold a hearing on the radicalization of American Muslims. Earlier, we spoke with Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the Cordoba Initiative, who was concerned that the coverage of the hearing in the Muslim world could further damage the relationship between America and Islam. Such concerns are surely connected to the media in the Middle East. How will the hearings be covered in the Muslim world?   “Whatever we do is perceived not only in this country, not only Muslims here, but Muslims overseas in a certain way,” Imam Feisal told The Takeaway. “It’s the way these things are covered which aggravate the relationship between America and the Muslim world not only domestically but internationally as well.”
To better understand how the hearing is being both covered and perceived in Muslim countries, we hear from Abderrahim Foukara, the Washington D.C. bureau chief of Al Jazeera.
