UK police arrest hacker who may be linked to Lulz Security

British police have reportedly arrested a man, 19, over the cyber attacks on Sony and the C.I.A. website, though they would not say whether he was tied to the Lulz Security hacking collective.

The FBI participated to the suspected hacker's arrest in a joint operation with the Metropolitan Police, the AP reports.

Lulz, which recently called for "war" on governments that control the internet, has boasted of hacking attacks on Sony and of taking down the C.I.A. website and breaching the U.S. Senate computer system.

The C.I.A. website could not be accessed from New York to San Francisco, and Bangalore to London after the attack.

The hackers have also reportedly opened up a phone request line for targets.

The latest arrest took place in the commuter town of Wickford, about 35 miles northeast of London late Monday and the suspect taken on suspicion of hacking and fraud offenses to a central London police station for questioning.

According to the AP:

Police said the arrest resulted from an investigation into network intrusions and distributed denial-of-service attacks against "a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group."

Officers are conducting forensic examinations on "a significant amount of material" found in the search of a home following the arrest.
