Cain accuser wants to speak out: report

GlobalPost

A lawyer for one of the women who accused Herman Cain of sexual harassment in the 1990s told The Washington Post on Tuesday that she wants to speak out publicly, but cannot because of a confidentiality agreement.

Lawyer Joel P. Bennett wants the National Restaurant Association, where Cain and the woman once worked, to allow the woman to break the agreement not to discuss the allegations.

“It is just frustrating that Herman Cain is going around bad-mouthing the two complainants, and my client is blocked by a confidentiality agreement,” Bennett told the Post. “The National Restaurant Association ought to release them and allow them to respond.”

Bennett said he thinks his client would be "very comfortable coming forward" if an agreement with the NRA were reached. According to Bennett, the woman, who has not been publicly identified in news stories, works for the federal government and has gone to live with relatives because members of the media are staking out her Maryland home.

Cain, who's presidential campaign unexpectedly took off several weeks ago, has for the last two days had to answer questions about alleged incidents of sexual harrassment that took place when he was head of the NRA. On Sunday, Politico reported that "at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain." Since then, Cain has acknowledged that he was accused of harassment, but maintains that the accusations were false. Since Politico's story, Cain has also revealed more details about the incidents in question.
