Abdel Rahim el-Kib, an electrical engineering academic from Tripoli, has been named Libya's interim prime minister.
Agence France-Presse says Kib was elected prime minister of Libya's transitional government by members of the National Transitional Council (NTC).
Kib was reportedly voted in on the first round Monday night, receiving 26 of 51 votes, and was among five candidates vying for the position.
He replaces Mahmoud Jibril, who stood down after Libya was declared "liberated" on October 23.

The NTC says it wants a general national congress to be elected within eight months, and presidential elections in 2013.
BBC News notes that the NTC's announcement of an interim prime minister coincides with the official end of NATO's seven-month campaign that helped take down Muammar Gaddafi.
Kib is expected to appoint a cabinet in the coming days, the BBC says.
Last week, the NTC declared the country liberated.
