Prince Edward Island seal deaths: Teens arrested for killing 50 seals

Three teen boys are accused of killing 50 seals on Prince Edward Island.
The animals, many of them babies, were found bludgeoned to death on the southeastern tip of the island last month.

The boys — ages 15, 17 and 18 — were arrested Friday and Saturday and later released to their parents, the CBC reported.
Their first court date is set for April 11.
While nothing is yet official, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told the CBC the boys face charges of causing unncessary suffering to animals.

The seals were found Jan. 27 by a group of veterinary students, according to the Sackville Tribune Post.
Necropsy results showed not all the seals died instantly and were left to die in the cold.
A $5,000 reward had been offered in the case.
