Ed Miliband is the UK’s would-be leader and … a sex god?

The World
Photoshopping Labour Party Leader Ed Miliband has become a meme. This photo shows him on the naked body of the music star Prince.

Britain has an election coming up soon, and Labour Party leader Ed Miliband is hoping to unseat David Cameron of the Conservatives as prime minister. But Miliband has an image problem.

Some media outlets keep portraying him as a wimp. Take this interview he did with Sky News:

Luckily for Miliband, the Internet is coming to the rescue, photoshopping his face onto the bodies of tough guys, cool guys and, yes, sex gods like Prince.

"It started online at the start of this week with what is reported to be a teenager launching something that she called '#milifandom,'" says BBC social news producer Kerry Alexandra. "A lot of people got involved and said they also that perhaps the press had been a little unkind to him and perhaps he wasn't as uncool as he'd been made out to be."

So he got an Extreme Makeover: Internet Edition.

The Twitter account @cooledmiliband, is behind many of the original images, but the meme is branching out. "As the week's gone on, the general public who use Twitter have got involved creating their own ones," Alexandra.

So is Miliband himself in on the joke? Alexandra thinks he has to be. After all, it's lighthearted joke compared to the real hits he's taken during the campaign. And it may even give him a little boost in a race with Cameron that's neck-and-neck.

"I think what it has done has made the younger voters realize they can have some influence and they can have say in the mainstream media," Alexanda says. "Perhaps politicians will sit up and listen."

As for Alexandra's favorite entry, she has just two word: "Bond. Milibond."
