‘Here and Now’: Candidates Tackle the Economy

Here and Now

What do you think of the candidates’ plans for the economy?

There’s more bad news on the economy — the Commerce Department reports that consumer spending came to a virtual standstill last month, increasing by only one-tenth of one percent — that’s the worst showing in almost a year and a half. The grim report is part of the fallout from the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

This week, all three main presidential candidates came out with their proposals to respond to the mortgage crisis.

On "Here and Now" to analyze each candidate’s plan are David Leonhardt of the "New York Times" and Nariman Behravesh, Chief Economist for Global Insight.

"Here and Now" is an essential midday news magazine for those who want the latest news and expanded conversation on today’s hot-button topics. The show is produced by WBUR/Boston and distributed nationwide by PRI.
