All of Olmert’s ministers are seeking to fill his shoes after allegations that he accepted cash from an American donor. This analyst believes Olmert’s coalition government has held together as long as it has only because many of his ministers want to keep it going so they can campaign from their offices. Take Olmert’s Transportation Minister who last week made a tour of the disputed Golan Heights which may be returned to Syria. He made such a hardline speech that some observers blamed his for a hike in oil prices. Other ministers also want the top job and it’s affecting their work says this member of the opposition party member. Then there’s the Defense Minister who’s hoping to win votes through some kind of successful military operation. But being attached to Olmert isn’t helping anyone with an increasingly skeptical public.
