US Ambassador in Kabul Reflects on 9/11

The US Ambassador to Afghanistan Ryan Crocker has had one of those careers that would make a terrific novel.

He re-opened the US Embassy in Kabul in 2002, six months after the fall of the Taliban. He helped reverse the insurgent tide in Iraq as ambassador there in 2007 and he survived the 1983 bombing of the US Embassy in Beirut.

Ryan Crocker retired in 2009, but that didn’t last long. He returned to Kabul in July at the request of President Barack Obama.
