[waitingforcorrection: no audio attached, invalid GUID] After being held in detention for six weeks, the Libyan government released four foreign journalists yesterday. Just a day before their release, the Libyan government had handed them one-year suspended sentence on charges of illegally entering the country. And a fifth journalist, Dorothy Parvaz who works for Al Jazeera, arrived safely at network’s headquarters in Doha after disappearing in Syria and being sent to Iran. To get more on the story we speak to Diane Foley, the mother of James Foley, a reporter for the Global Post who was among the four detained in Libya.
At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.
