After all, their grandparents survived a time when the American unemployment rate was 25 percent, while their parents came of age well after that devastating time and well before the recession of today.

Beth Kobliner, the Takeaway’s work contributor and author of Get a Financial Life, has a secret weapon to share: her father, who’s taught her pretty much everything she knows.
