Colin Meloy: From Indie Rock to ‘Wildwood’

The Takeaway

Takeaway co-host Celeste Headlee is on a swing through the West Coast this week where she’s been visiting with artists and newsmakers and bringing back her reporting. Last week, she had the chance to talk with multi-talented author and musician Colin Meloy. Colin is best known for his role as the lead singer and chief songwriter of the band “The Decemberists.” But Colin has also just written a children’s book called “Wildwood” –  his wife Carson Ellis illustrated the novel. “Wildwood” is a children’s novel of epic proportion, the first of what will be a continuing series of stories about one middle school girl’s adventures with mythical creatures. It takes place in the “Impassable Wilderness” that Colin has imagined on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. Celeste spoke to Carson and Colin at their home in Oregon.
