Bad weather

Last year, Stefanie Eggleston got an assignment from her fifth-grade teacher to monitor the temperature and rainfall for a week at her home in northwest Missouri. Her dad, J., is a bit of a statistics geek, and so the two of them decided to take the project a bit further – they set a DVR to record the 10 p.m. newscast each day on all the local TV networks, and then documented their weather predictions. They also kept track of the National Weather Service forecast. They did this for seven months. What they found is that our nation’s meteorologists aren’t as good at predicting the weather as you might think. Stefanie and J. Eggleston speak with Faith Salie on Fair Game.
