Japan’s nuclear regulatory agency has declared an emergency over radioactive water flowing into the ocean from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and the government has stepped in for the first time to take a direct role in fixing the problem.

The Chairman of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Gregory Jaczko has responded to the nuclear crisis in Japan, “In a comparable situation in the United States, we would have issued evacuation instructions to a larger, larger distance away from the plant,” he said.
