Extra Credit: 3D Printing Challenge

Studio 360

A new cutting-edge technology is about to take over the world: 3D printing. Pretty soon, if one of the buttons on your remote control goes missing, you’ll be able to just print a new one. With 3D design software, anyone can create a plan for an object and send it to a printer, which uses plastic filament to build up the object in fine layers. Watch how it works below.

To celebrate the arrival of the future, we’re partnering with MakerBot, a company that makes 3D printers, to give you a new Extra Credit project: a holiday ornament challenge. Winners of the challenge will have the chance to join Studio 360 host Kurt Andersen and MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis on stage at our live event at The Greene Space in New York City on December 17. Everyone’s invited! We’ll have live music by Javelin, free drinks, and 3D printing demos. Get your tickets here.

UPDATE 12/17:
Our winner is Paul Draghicescu, a computer programmer from Seattle, who submitted his Snowflake Icosahedron.
