The Bird and the Bee Live In-Studio

Studio 360

Every Friday, Inara Georgeand Greg Kurstin(who perform and record as The Bird and the Bee) meet up to make music. At times, other obligations and opportunities have threatened to pull them away — Inara has collaborated with the legendary Van Dyke Parks; Greg has been producing albums for pop superstars like Sia and Kelly Clarkson, and both have been raising families — but they keep meeting up, keep chipping away, keep making music.

And it’s a good thing, too, because the music they make together is smart, sexy, and cool. Five years after their last album dropped (Interpreting the Masters, made up of 100-percent-earnest Hall and Oates covers) they’ve released Recreational Love, a new album of original tunes that evoke, at times, the girl groups of the 60’s, the disco hits of the 70’s, the R&B of the 80’s and the alt-rock of the 90’s, but still manage to feel current and innovative.

“Will You Dance?”is the first single from the new album. It’s a celebration of dancing with abandon. Here’s Inara demonstrating some of her dance moves in the studio (including her trademark “Lassoing the Cattle”):

Her willingness to hop on the dance floor has only increased over the years. “That’s the thing about being 40,” she says. “I don’t care anymore. I’m not shy.”
