Roseanne Barr: 5 things you didn’t know about the Green Party presidential hopeful

Actress, author and comedienne Roseanne Barr announced over Twitter on Thursday, that she had filed paper work with the Federal Election Commission on Jan. 25, to run as a Green Party candidate for President.  This brings the race for the GOP candidacy to a four-way clash between Barr, leading candidate Dr. Jill Stein, Dr. Kent Mesplay, and Harley Mikkelson.

Here are five things you should know about the aspiring GP candidate.

1. Barr was born in 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She wrote in her autobiography "Roseanne: My Life as a Woman" that "Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning I was a Jew. Sunday afternoon, Tuesday afternoon, and Wednesday afternoon we were Mormons." 

In an election season that has seen two other prominent Mormon nominees, Barr's experience brings yet another unique viewpoint on Mormonism in America.

2. Barr lives with her partner Johnny Argent on the Big Island of Hawaii on a macadamia nut farm that she purchased in 2007 for $1.78 million.

3. Barr has three ex-husbands, three daughters, and two sons, who range in age from 10 to 35. She also has two grandchildren.

4. In a presidential nomination poll conducted on Green Party Watch, Barr received 29 percent of the vote, a far second to Jill Stein, the GOP candidate from Massachusetts with 68 percent.

Barr has commented on Twitter that she is running in “in support of The Green Party & probably of Jill Stein—hopefully I can be of service by speaking on media about a viable choice 4 voters.”

5. Watch out Bibi! Barr has also expressed interest in simultaneously running for the Prime Minister of Israel. “As a Jew that’s what I owe my people,” Barr said in a September interview with the Jewish Daily Forward, “to save them with Tikkun Olam by bringing communities of women into politics and religion.”
