Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi will return to India next week, after undergoing a successful surgery for an undisclosed ailment at New York-based Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the Indian Express reports.

The leader — whose absence was felt by the Congress during the recent anti-corruption agitation led by Anna Hazare — is not expected to return to work for another monht, the paper quoted unnamed sources as saying.

Her son, Rahul, who has been in charge of the party during her absence, has left for the U.S. to accompany her on her return, the paper said.
