A view of a spiral road near Lamayuru in Ladakh.
Ladakh, in the north of India, is a land of stark and unspoiled beauty, a region where traditional culture and Tibetan Buddhism flourish. However, because of online travel agencies and charter flights, it's fast becoming overcrowded with domestic tourists. The number of visitors has mushroomed from about 8,000 in 2000 to 100,000 this year. With fleets of buses visiting local monasteries and wilderness areas like the Nubra Valley, once isolated spots are endangered of becoming spoiled.
Photographer Parth Sanyal, who has covered South Asia for almost 20 years, visited Ladakh to capture its beauty before it becomes overrun by this new wave of tourism.
