Gabrielle Giffords reads aloud from book she wrote with Mark Kelly

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman shot in the head in January, reads aloud a portion of her upcoming audio book, CNN reports, allowing many people to hear for themselves for the first time how she is recovering.

Doctors say Giffords has made a miraculous recovery since the Jan. 8 shooting at a Tucson supermarket, which left six people dead and 12 others wounded.

Since the shooting, she has appeared in public only a few times and spoken only with friends and family, and at small gatherings.

Giffords lives with her astronaut husband Mark Kelly in Houston, where she is undergoing therapy at TIRR Memorial Hermann hospital.

She has had to learn how to walk and talk again.

Scribner is publishing the memoir, called “Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope," which it says details the couple’s marriage, Giffords' political career, Kelly’s career as an astronaut, and their experiences stemming from the shooting, according to the Arizona Republic. It is scheduled for release Nov. 15.

The audio book is scheduled to be released the same day by Simon & Schuster Audio.

The Republic reports:

The cover of the audio-book version, which is available for pre-order online, displays the same photo of Giffords and Kelly, hugging before their 2007 wedding in Amado, as the hardback. It also bears a secondary title that says, "Read by Mark Kelly with a final chapter read by Gabrielle Giffords."

A spokesman for Giffords, Mark Kimble, confirmed that Giffords has completed the recording of the final chapter of the memoir.
